Double Direction Thrust Ball Bearings (52200, 52300, 52400, 54200, and 54300 Series) are specialized rolling bearings designed to accommodate heavy axial thrust loads acting in both directions. Unlike single direction thrust bearings, these assemblies feature a central shaft washer fixed to the shaft, two housing washers seated in the housing, and two separate ball and cage thrust assemblies.

Product Overview

Because they transmit axial forces through90°contact angles parallel to the shaft axis, they cannot support any radial loads. Double direction thrust ball bearings are available with flat housing washers for rigid seats or spherical aligning housing washers (54200/54300 series) paired with seating rings to compensate for initial mounting misalignment between the shaft and housing. They are widely used in machine tool spindles, crane hook swivels, heavy vertical pumps, marine propeller thrust blocks, and industrial gearboxes.

Bidirectional Thrust Support: Unifies two thrust bearings into a single compact footprint to locate shafts axially and absorb dynamic thrust forces from both directions.

Separable Construction: All components—the central shaft washer, two housing washers, and two ball/cage units—can be mounted independently for easy assembly and maintenance.

Low Rolling Resistance: Precision-ground raceways on both sides of the central shaft washer provide low operational friction and smooth motion at moderate speeds.

Self-Aligning Seating Option (54200 / 54300 Series): Spherical housing washers paired with concave seating rings automatically compensate for initial angular misalignment.

Strict Radial Isolation: Designed purely for axial loads; must be combined with a separate radial bearing (such as a deep groove or cylindrical roller bearing) when radial forces are present.
