Spherical Thrust Roller Bearings (29200, 29300, and 29400 Series) are high-capacity, heavy-duty self-aligning thrust bearings specifically engineered to support extreme unidirectional axial loads alongside simultaneous radial loads. Structurally featuring an asymmetric barrel-shaped roller geometry running inside a spherical housing washer raceway, these bearings permit automatic internal angular self-alignment.

Product Overview

Because the load vector is transmitted through the raceways at an inclined contact angle, the force is resolved into a primary heavy axial component and a secondary radial component. This unique internal geometry allows spherical thrust roller bearings to operate at higher speeds than most other thrust bearing types while accommodating significant shaft misalignment and frame deflections.

Manufactured from high-cleanliness GCr15 Chrome Steel or premium case-carburized alloy steel (for heavy impact resistance), these bearings are widely specified in heavy industrial applications including hydroelectric turbine generators, vertical extrusion presses, marine propulsion propeller shafts, crane slewing mechanisms, oilfield rotary tables, pulverizing mills, and heavy gearboxes.

Extreme Axial Load Capacity with Radial Capability: Large barrel-shaped rollers provide extensive line contact against the raceways, enabling support for severe thrust loads while accommodating radial loads up to 55% of the simultaneous axial load.

Automatic Angular Self-Alignment: The spherical raceway in the housing washer automatically compensates for dynamic shaft deflection, frame misalignment, and thermal elongation.

High Rotational Speed Performance: Asymmetric roller geometry and optimized cage designs guide the rollers precisely against the shaft washer rib, drastically reducing friction and operating heat at higher RPMs.

Separable Assembly Construction: The shaft washer with roller/cage assembly and the housing washer can be mounted independently, simplifying installation, shaft setup, and routine inspection.

Heavy Shock & Vibration Resistance: Available in case-hardened carburized steel variants to provide a tough, shock-absorbing inner core beneath a hardened outer surface, preventing premature fracturing under heavy dynamic impacts.
